When looking at what kind of karaoke system to purchase, it can get overwhelming – fast! Different systems provide different features, and different brands incorporate various technologies into their machines; hence, it is important to know some of the features of a system and how it will best support you.
Karaoke systems range from a simple home system, to portable systems, to all out pro systems. Within these categories, there are a variety of hardware choices too. When we first started our karaoke journey about a decade ago, we were introduced to our friend’s setup who utilized a CD-based system. Although a lot of fun at first, we began to find this cumbersome over time because we had to locate the CD that housed the song, put it into the Karaoke machine’s CD drive, and then remove/reload CDs for each song we chose to sing. We swiftly learned a hard drive-based system would be more efficient.
We purchased our first karaoke machine from Acesonic.com, KOD-1000. We were so excited! However, we realized quickly again that although this was very convenient, the song choices became limiting. We did have the ability to add songs to the hard drive but the process was involved, making it a challenge! Ultimately, we went the laptop route and now use a software called PCDJ Karaoke from pcdj.com. We love it! This allows us to easily download songs from various sources and stay current. When using a laptop and KJ software of choice, it does get more expensive – we had to purchase all of our KJ equipment separately.
